DESCRIPTION:

This diagnostic test monitors throttle position and vehicle speed with the brake applied to detect an action of the driver that could damage the vehicle drivetrain or create an unsafe condition. The primary purpose of this code is to detect an action of the driver that could cause an unsafe condition or damage to the vehicle. This code can be driver induced by shifting from Park or Neutral to Drive or Reverse with a throttle angel of 20° or greater. Fuel injectors 2,3,5 and 8 will be disabled when the code sets. The throttle angle must be less than 16 to re-enable the fuel injectors after code sets. Check TPS for proper operation.

TEST CONDITIONS:

Codes E21 and E22 not set.

FAILURE CONDITIONS:

1. Gear selection from Park or Neutral to Drive or Reverse.
2. Engine speed greater than 2000 rpm.
3. Vehicle speed less than 6 mph.
4. Throttle angel of 20 degrees or greater.

ACTION TAKEN:

1. Code is set.
2. No SERVICE ENGINE SOON lamp.
3. Disable fuel injectors to selected cylinders.
