Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems: Service Precautions

Before performing any repairs on the ABS system, note the following precautions:
1. If any welding work is to be done on the vehicle using and arc welder, the EBCM and hydraulic modulator connectors should be disconnected.
2. Hydraulic modulator and EBCM connectors should never be disconnected when the ignition switch is on.
3. Do not use a fast charger to charge battery when battery is connected. Always disconnect battery from system before using a fast charge. Never disconnect battery from system with engine running.
4. Always note routing, position and mounting of electrical components, wiring and connectors of the ABS system.
5. Many components of the ABS system are non-serviceable and must be replaced as assemblies. Do not disassemble any component which is designated non-serviceable.
6. After any component of the ABS system has been replaced it will be necessary to check the system. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING PROCEDURES/TESTING PROCEDURES.
