SUBJECT: WIPER BLADE CHATTER REDUCTION/WINDSHIELD CLEANING
Some Cadillac vehicles may exhibit a condition of windshield wiper chatter or poor wipeability due to dirt, oil, or car wax building up on the windshield and/or the wiper blade elements.
A cleaner that has been found to be effective for cleaning the windshield and reducing wiper blade chatter is Kar Kem All Purpose Cleaner (APC). APC is produced and sold by Kar Kem Products, Inc. and is not available in national retail outlets. Therefore, APC must be ordered from Kar Kem Inc. directly. To order, call 1-800-423-3168 or write:
Kar Kem Products, Inc.
150 Hope Street
Longwood, FL 32750
To clean the windshield with Kar Kem APC use the following procedure:
1. Mix the All Purpose Cleaner 4 parts water to 1 part APC. (i.e., mix 4 ounces of water with 1 ounce APC to create 5 ounces of cleaner.)
NOTE: The use of safety glasses and rubber gloves is required when handling Kar Kem APC in concentrated form.
2. Pour mixture into a clean spray bottle.
3. With the wipers running in the "LO" setting, spray the entire windshield with the mixture.
4. With the wipers off, clear the windshield and wiper blade elements of the mixture with a clean, dry cloth.
IMPORTANT: Do not ADD Kar Kem All Purpose Cleaner, in any concentration, to the washer FLUID reservoir. At high temperatures APC will solidify and obstruct the flow of washer fluid through the wiper hoses and nozzles.
The extended use of Kar Kem APC may degrade the wiper blade elements. If wiper blade chatter persists, refer to Section 8E of the Service Information Manual for additional diagnosis of wiper chatter conditions.
