SUBJECT:
DECK LID WATER LEAKS
MODELS AFFECTED:
1992 ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES
Some 1992 Eldorados and Sevilles built prior to VIN's 601810 and 803946 may experience water leaks between the deck lid between the weatherstrip and body mounting flange.
To correct this condition the weatherstrips should be replaced with revised weatherstrips P/N 3535867 (Eldorado) and P/N 3535866 (Seville). These weatherstrips contain a hot melt foam in the carrier that helps to retain as well as seal the weatherstrip against water intrusion.
To replace the weatherstrip use the following procedure:
1. Carefully pull up on weatherstrip and remove from retaining flange.
2. Heat foam melt sealant located in weatherstrip channel to a minimum of 80~ and a maximum of 110~ (this can be accomplished by heat lamp or hot air gun).
3. Locate weatherstrip joint to the rear center of the deck lid opening. Refer to Figure 1.
4. Assemble the weatherstrip to the deck lid opening flange by starting at the rear center joint and working it into position around the opening.
NOTE:
Assure that the weatherstrip is fully seated on the flange and that no wrinkles are present in the corners. Keep deck lid closed for 30 minutes after installation to minimize the weatherstrip from lifting prior to performing a water test.
5. Water test the area to assure no leaks are present.
