CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
During normal non-deployment operation of the SIR system, a small amount of current flows through both the driver's and passenger's deployment loops. The diagnostic resistors within the Dual Pole Arming sensor and the Discriminating sensors along with the resistance of the Inflator Modules, cause voltage drops within the deployment loops. The DERM monitors the voltage at 'PASSENGER'S SENSE LOW', terminal 'B7', to detect shorts or opens within the passenger's deployment loop. When the measured voltage is above 50% of 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR' for 500 milliseconds, Code R019 is set.
TEST CONDITION(S)
Tested every 100 milliseconds while 'Continuous Monitoring' tests active.
FAILURE CONDITION(S)
Voltage at the 'PASSENGER'S SENSE LOW', terminal 'B7', is greater than 50% of 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR', terminal A3', for 500 milliseconds.
ACTION TAKEN
1. DERM turns on the 'INFLATAI3LE RESTRAINT' indicator.
2. 'SERVICE SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' message is displayed on DIC.
NOTES ON FAULT TREE
1. Check the RH Discriminating Sensor and associated pigtail wiring for an open.
2. Checks for an open in the 'PASSENGER'S SENSE LOW' circuit between the Passenger's Inflator Module and RH Discriminating Sensor connectors or a faulty DERM.
3. Checking Dual Pole Arming sensor's diagnostic resistors for decreased resistance.
4. Checking if CKT 347 is shorted to 'DRIVER'S 36 VLR', CKT 236 or 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR', CKT 1401.
5. Checking if CKT 1403 is shorted to 'DRIVER'S 36 VLR' CKT 236 or 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR', CKT 1401.
6. Checking if CKT 347 is shorted to 'DRIVER'S SOURCE SENSE', CKT 1400 or 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE', CKT 1402.
7. Checking if CKT 1403 is shorted to DRIVER'S SOURCE SENSE', CKT 1400 or 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE', CKT 1402.
8. Checking if CKT 348 is shorted to 'DRIVER'S 36 VLR' CKT 236 or 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR', CKT 1401.
9. Checking if CKT 1404 is shorted to 'DRIVER'S 36 VLR' CKT 236 or 'PASSENGER'S 36 VLR', CKT 1401.
10. Checking if CKT 348 is shorted to 'DRIVER'S SOURCE SENSE', CKT 1400 or 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE', CKT 1402.
11. Checking if CKT 1404 is shorted to 'DRIVER'S SOURCE SENSE', CKT 1400 or 'PASSENGER'S SOURCE SENSE', CKT 1402.
12. Checking for increased resistance in the RH Discriminating Sensor.
13. Checking for increased resistance in the Forward Discriminating Sensor or a faulty DERM.
