R051
Diagnostic Chart:
Wiring Diagram:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The DERM determines that the Dual Pole Arming sensor is closed when system voltage or more is present at the 'DRIVER'S SENSE HIGH' terminal 'B9' and/or the 'PASSENGER'S SENSE HIGH', terminal A7', and it determines that at least one Discriminating Sensor is closed when it notes low voltage at the 'DRIVER'S SENSE LOW', terminal 'B8', and the 'PASSENGER'S SENSE LOW', terminal 'B7'. When both conditions are met on the driver's side and/or passenger's side for greater than 250 microseconds, Code R051 is set.
TEST CONDITION(S)
1. DERM if functioning normally.
FAILURE CONDITION(S)
DERM senses that both the Dual Pole Arming sensor and at least one Discriminating Sensor are closed simultaneously for greater than 250 microseconds.
ACTION TAKEN
1. DERM turns on the 'INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' indicator.
2. 'SERVICE SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' message is displayed on DIC.
3. DERM records crash data.
4. Code R051 is set until cleared with a scan tool.
5. While Code R051 is set, SIR CLEAR CODES function in On-Board diagnostics is disabled.
NOTES ON FAULT TREE
1. When the inflator modules have not deployed, Code R051 may have set falsely.
2. When an accident has occurred, it is necessary to perform the indicated procedures to ensure the SIR system is fully functional.
3. This test checks for a DERM fault setting the code falsely.
4. This test determines whether the code was set inadvertently during diagnosis.
