Oil Pump: Service and Repair


OIL PUMP

REMOVAL
1. Remove front cover.
2. Remove three oil pump mounting bolts.
3. Remove pump and drive spacer.

DISASSEMBLE
1. Remove drive spacer from pump housing.
2. Remove two screws holding pump housing halves together.
3. Remove inner and outer rotors from housing. Mark mating surfaces.
4. Remove pressure relief valve.

INSPECTION
1. Inspect pump housing for nicks, burrs, chips or debris that may cause a leak or binding condition in rotor pocket.
2. Inspect drive or driven rotors for nicks or burrs.
3. Check pump cover and interior surface for excessive wear or score marks.

ASSEMBLE
1. Install inner and outer rotors to pump cover. Align marks made during pump disassemble procedure.
2. Install pressure relief valve seat, spring and pilot in pump housing.
3. Assemble housing and cover over locating dial.
4. Insert a 3/8 inch drill bit in pump mounting hole on opposite side to aid in alignment of housing and cover.
5. Install two bolts and torque to 9 ft. lbs.

INSTALLATION
1. Install oil pump drive spacer into oil pump from rear so that drive flat engages pump rotor.
2. Position pump over crankshaft, then loosely install bolts.
3. Holding pump up as high as possible, torque pump retaining bolts to 7 ft. lbs. plus an additional 35°.
4. Install front cover assembly.
