Intake Manifold: Service and Repair
INTAKE MANIFOLD AND SEALSREMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Air intake duct from throttle body.
2. Coolant hoses at throttle body and to coolant reservoir and plug hoses. Wrap a shop towel around hoses when disconnecting to avoid spillage.
3. Electrical connectors for intake manifold (2), Throttle Position (TP) sensor, Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor, EVAP solenoid and cruise control servo.
4. Vacuum hoses at brake vacuum booster, fuel pipe bundle and to body.
5. PCV hose at intake manifold.
6. Accelerator cable at throttle body and position out of the way.
7. Relieve fuel system pressure.
8. Fuel pipe quick connects at fuel pipe bundle in engine compartment.
9. EVAP solenoid bracket at rear cam cover.
10. Reposition transaxle range control cable away from cruise control servo.
Intake Manifold And Throttle Body Service:
11. Four intake manifold bolts and lift intake manifold with throttle body out of engine compartment.
Intake Manifold Seals:
12. Intake manifold seals and spacers at cylinder heads (if replacement is necessary).
13. Fuel pipe retainer at ISC bracket.
14. Four throttle body bolts and throttle body at intake manifold.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Position new throttle body 0-ring seal on throttle body with petroleum jelly.
IMPORTANT
^ Do not reuse old throttle body 0 - ring seal. The seal swells when exposed to fuel and oil and will not seat properly to the throttle body and intake manifold once the throttle body has been removed.
^ Do not use silicone lubricants on the throttle body 0-ring seal. Silicone lubricants may damage the 0-ring seal.
Intake Manifold And Throttle Body Service:
2. Throttle body with four bolts to intake manifold.
TIGHTEN
^ Torque bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb. in.).
3. Fuel pipe retainer at ISC bracket.
4. Intake manifold seals and spacers at cylinder heads (if replacement was necessary).
5. Intake manifold with throttle body onto engine and install four bolts.
Intake Manifold Torque Sequence:

^ Refer to Image for intake manifold bolt torque procedure.
6. Coolant hoses at throttle body and coolant reservoir. Add coolant as needed.
7. Position transaxle range control cable at cruise control bracket.
8. EVAP solenoid bracket at rear cam cover.
9. Fuel pipe quick connects at fuel pipe bundle in engine compartment.
10. Accelerator cable at throttle body.
11. Vacuum vacuum hoses at brake vacuum booster, fuel pipe bundle and to body.
12. PCV hose at intake manifold.
13. Electrical connectors for intake manifold (2), TP sensor, ISC motor, EVAP solenoid and cruise control servo.
14. Air intake duct to throttle body.
