PRECAUTIONS
CAUTION: Never drain or store fuel in an open container due to the possibility of fire or explosion.
CAUTION: To help avoid personal Injury when a vehicle Is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which components are being removed. This will reduce the possibility of the vehicle falling off the hoist.
NOTE: If a car is to be stored for any appreciable length of time, the fuel should be drained from the complete system, including injector nozzle(s), fuel pump, and fuel pipes and the fuel tank in order to prevent gum formations and resultant improper engine performance.
TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39581 Fuel Tank Drain Adapter
PROCEDURE
1. Place a Class B fire extinguisher near the work area.
2. Remove fuel filler cap.
3. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
4. Locate fuel tank drain pipe.
5. Remove drain pipe plug.
6. Install J 39581 fuel tank drain adapter.
NOTE: Fabricate a suitable length of fuel hose and clamp to drain adapter.
7. Connect fuel drain hose to suitable hand operated or air operated pump and remove fuel.
