Chart 2 Air Bag Indic Does Not Come on Steady During Crank

Diagnostic Chart:

Wiring Diagram:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

When the Ignition Switch is first turned 'ON', system voltage is applied through fuse A3 to the 'Redundant Indicator Ignition 1' terminal 'B2', and the 'INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' indicator which is connected to 'SIR Indicator' control terminal 'B1'. Fuse All also applies system voltage to the Ignition 1 terminals A9' and 'A10'. The DERM responds by flashing the 'INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' indicator 7 times.

When the engine is being cranked, system voltage is applied to the DERM at the 'CRANK' terminal 'B10'. The DERM grounds the lamp circuit until system voltage is removed from the 'CRANK' terminal 'B10'. This results in a steady 'INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' indicator during cranking.

After cranking, the DERM will flash the 'INFLATABLE RESTRAINT' indicator 6 times.

NOTES ON FAULT TREE

1. Checking if the engine will crank determines if the fault is in the SIR circuit or the cranking circuit.

2. Checking for an open or high resistance in CKT 806 or a faulty DERM.
