P110

DTC P110:

Generator Circuit:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
This diagnostic monitors the generator feedback and compares it to the generator control in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). When the PCM commands the generator to be "ON" and the feedback indicates that it is "OFF" for 15 seconds, Code P110 will set.

The PCM initiates generator operation by supplying a 12 volt signal to the generator "L" terminal over CKT 225. The generator regulator applies voltage to the rotor as a pulse signal to energize the field windings.

The generator can detect internal faults. If this occurs for 15 seconds, the PCM will set Code P110. The generator can self-diagnose a shorted output diode, malfunctioning regulator, open or shorted rotor, over-or-under voltage condition, shaft not rotating, or open sense lead.

TEST CONDITIONS
1. Engine running.
2. PCM commanding generator "ON."

FAILURE CONDITIONS
PCM commanding generator "ON" and generator feedback indicating it is "OFF" for 15 seconds.

ACTION TAKEN
"Battery No Charge" message is displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC).

NOTES ON FAULT TREE
1. Checking PCM ability to cycle the generator control output. If voltage cycles, replace the battery.
2. Checking if CKT 225 is open or shorted to ground or if the PCM is bad.

NOTES ON INTERMITTENTS
A loose or faulty connection at the generator "L" terminal may cause Code P110 to set intermittently.
