DTC 48

DTC 48 Left Front TCS Isolation Valve Solenoid Malfunction

Circuit Description

All the ABS and TCS valves are located within the BPM Valve. When the ignition is placed in "RUN", the Valve Relay, located within the EBTCM, is activated which then applies voltage to all of the valve solenoids. The EBTCM controls each individual valve by applying a ground to its solenoid as it is needed.

DTC will set when

Code 48 will set when the expected position of the LF TCS isolation valve does not match the commanded position from the EBTCM. Conditions which could cause Code 48 to set are: damage to the valve or solenoid, an open circuit, or a short circuit to ground or battery.

Action Taken

1. Code set.
2. ABS/TCS switched "OFF".
3. "ANTILOCK" indicator "ON".
4. "TRACTION DISABLED" message displayed

Test Description

Test numbers refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. Checks for proper BPM valve operation.
2. Possible intermittent or faulty connector.
3. Tests for a possible open in BPM.
4. Previously checked hardware is good, possible bad EBTCM.

Diagnostic Aids

Check the Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM) ground paths at terminals 1, 15 and G110 for clean, tight connections. Brake fluid in the EBTCM/BPM cavity is a sign of a leaking valve. Replace the BPM and the EBTCM if brake fluid is found in the cavity.
