Brake to Shift

The Brake To Shift indicator, when illuminated, informs the driver to press on the brake pedal in order to move the gear selector out of the PARK position. The lamp illuminates with the gear selector in the PARK position and the ignition is in the ON or RUN position with the engine OFF or running.

The Body Control Module (BCM) controls the operation of the Brake To Shift indicator lamp. The instrument cluster supplies battery power to the circuit. When the gear selector is in the PARK position, the BCM gear position circuit remains high, signaling the BCM to ground the Brake To Shift indicator lamp. After moving the gear selector out of the PARK position, the automatic transmission shift lock control switch grounds the BCM gear position circuit. This signals the BCM to remove the ground from the lamp.
