AIR BAG Warning Lamp Comes On Steady

Schematic:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
When you first turn ON the ignition, the CLAMP 15 CRUISE Fuse applies battery voltage to the AIR BAG warning lamp. The AIR BAG warning lamp is controlled by the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic and Seat Belt Pretensioner Module (SDM). The ignition switch supplies battery voltage to the SDM, at terminal 5. The SDM responds by flashing the AIR BAG warning lamp seven times and then turning it OFF. The SDM monitors the AIR BAG warning lamp control circuit by comparing the output state of the AIR BAG warning lamp control circuit, at terminal 6, of the SDM, to the microprocessor commanded state.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
In order to disable the shorting bar above the AIR BAG warning lamp control circuit inside of the SDM wiring harness connector, the SDM wiring harness connector musty be properly connected to the SDM. Also, the connector assurance position (CPA) must be installed properly. Inspect the SDM wiring harness connector, the shorting bars and the CPA to ensure that the SDM wiring harness connector properly connects to the SDM.

TEST DESCRIPTION

Steps 1 - 9:

Steps 10 - 17:

Steps 18 - 23:

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table:
2. This step checks to see if either DTC 43 or DTC 44 is present.
4. This step checks to see if sufficient voltage is being supplied to the SDM.
5. This step checks to see if excessive voltage is being supplied to the SDM.
6. This step checks to see if the CPA properly installs when the SDM wiring harness connector is connected to the SDM.
9. This step checks the AIR BAG warning lamp control circuit, the SDM ground circuit, and the shorting bar.
11. This step checks the SDM terminals and the shorting bar lifting tabs.
12. This step checks for a short to ground in the AIR BAG warning lamp control circuit.
13. This step determines if there is a short between the AIR BAG warning lamp control circuit and the SDM ground circuit.
17. This step checks the SDM wiring harness connector.
20. This step determines if there is an open or a high resistance in ignition feed circuit or if there is a malfunctioning SDM.
