Self-Diagnostics

The EBCM performs system self-diagnostics. The EBCM can detect and often isolate system malfunctions. When a malfunction is detected, the EBCM sets a DTC. The DTC represents the malfunction. The EBCM may disable any of the following functions as necessary for the duration of the ignition cycle:
^ Antilock Brake System (ABS)
^ Traction Control System (TCS)
^ Dynamic Rear Proportioning (DRP)
^ Vehicle Stability Enhancement System (VSES)
^ Variable Effort Steering (YES)

The EBCM uses class 2 serial data messages to tell the instrument cluster to turn on the indicators or messages associated with the systems.
