DUAL ZONE Setting

Activate dual zone in one of the following ways:
^ Press the center of the passenger temperature control button.
^ Press either the top arrow or the bottom arrow.

On some vehicles, the dual zone feature can be activated by adjusting the passenger climate control knob located on the right front door.

The dual zone A/C system is a vacuum and electronically controlled Heating, Ventilation, And Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. Both electronic and vacuum circuits determine the air intake and discharge locations. The electronic circuits also control the following items:
^ The control mode
^ The A/C compressor clutch operation
^ The fan operation
^ The discharge air temperature

In the dual zone system, the air mix valve is split in half. Each half has an individual actuator.

When the system is operating in the dual zone mode, the heater and A/C programmer energizes each actuator separately. The driver side discharge temperature is dependent upon the following conditions:
^ The coolant temperature
^ The ambient temperature
^ The inside temperature
^ The sun load sensor
^ The heater and A/C control SET temperature

The passenger side discharge air temperature is dependent upon the following conditions:
^ The coolant temperature
^ The ambient temperature
^ The inside air temperature
^ The sun load sensor
^ The passenger temperature control setting information

In all of the other modes, except the dual zone mode, the actuators operate in unison as the system maintains the heater and A/C control SET temperature.
