Audible Warnings Description

The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) monitors various inputs (discrete circuits and/or class 2 message) in order to determine when to command the radio (IRC) to activate an audible warning via the class 2 serial data line. The following audible warnings are controlled by the IPC:
^ Door Ajar Warning (one pulse chime) The IPC sends a class 2 message requesting the IRC to activate the chime when the IPC determines that the following conditions exist:
- The vehicle speed is approximately 10 mph.
- The left front door is ajar or open.
^ Engine Coolant Temperature Warning (medium chime) - When the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) determines that the coolant temperature has exceeded approximately 131°C (270°F), the PCM sends a class 2 message. When the IPC receives the message, the IPC displays the ENGINE OVERHEATED-STOP ENGINE message on the driver message center. The PCM sends a class 2 message requesting the IRC to activate the chime.
^ Key-In Ignition Warning (medium chime) - When the ignition key is in the steering column lock cylinder and the IPC determines via a class 2 message from the body control module (PZM) that the left front door is open, the IPC sends a class 2 message requesting the IRC to activate the chime.
^ Lamps On Warning (fast chime) - The IPC sends a class 2 message requesting the IRC to activate the chime when the IPC determines that the following conditions exist:
- The park lamps have been manually turned ON.
- The ignition key is not in the steering column lock cylinder.
- The left front door is open.
^ Low Oil Pressure Warning (medium chime) - If the oil pressure drops below approximately 20.5 kPa (3 psi) with the engine running, the PCM sends a class 2 message. The IPC receives the message and performs the following actions:
- The engine oil pressure indicator is illuminated.
- The STOP ENGINE-LOW OIL PRESSURE message is displayed on the driver message center.
- A class 2 message is sent to the IRC in order to activate the chime.
^ Turn Signal On Warning (fast chime) - When the IPC determines that the turn signals are ON and the vehicle has been driven continuously for approximately 1 mile, the IPC sends a class 2 message requesting the IRC to activate the chime.
