Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Hydraulic System: Service and Repair

The entire hydraulic system should be thoroughly flushed with clean brake fluid if there is any doubt as to the grade of the fluid in the system, or if the fluid that has been used contains the slightest trace of mineral oil or silicon fluid.
All rubber parts which have been subjected to the contaminated fluid must be replaced before flushing the system.
Flushing is performed at each wheel in the same way bleeding is done, except that the new fluid must be forced through the system until it emerges clear in color. About one quart of new fluid is needed to flush the system.
After completing the flushing operation at all bleeder valves, check that the master cylinder is filled to the correct level.
