Antenna, Radio: Service and Repair

ANTENNA REPLACEMENT - DIGITAL RADIO (U2K)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear sail panels.

NOTE: Do NOT apply paint or clear coat to the XM band radio antenna. This will damage the function of the antenna, causing poor reception or loss of reception of the XM digital signal.

2. Remove the rear assist handles.
3. Lower the rear of the headliner.

NOTE: Use care when removing or installing the headliner. Excessive bending will damage the headliner.

4. Remove the antenna cable connection from above the AM/FM antenna module.
5. Remove the foam tape from the antenna cable connection.
6. Disconnect the digital radio antenna connectors (1).
7. Remove the antenna bolt (2) and expansion sleeve (3).
8. Squeeze the retainer (4), located on the shaft of the antenna near the base, with a pair of pliers.

IMPORTANT: The retainer, located on the shaft of the radio antenna, was designed for assembly plant operations to retain the digital antenna to the roof before the bolt is installed. If the retainer on the radio antenna is broken or damaged during service of the antenna, the antenna will still operate as designed and should be reused.

9. Remove the digital radio antenna.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Install the digital radio antenna to the roof.

2. Route the wiring pigtail to the side in the slot on the antenna shaft and install the antenna expansion sleeve (3) and bolt (2) to the antenna shaft.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
