Headliner Replacement (w/o CF5)
Removal Procedure
Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
1. Remove the front bucket seats. Refer to Seat Replacement - Front Bucket (Seat Replacement - Front Bucket) in Seats.
2. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8) (Console Replacement (Without RPO Code UV8))Console Replacement (w/ UV8) (Console Replacement (With RPO Code UV8)) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
3. Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar).
4. Remove the center pillar trim. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar.
5. Remove the sail panels. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement (Sail Panel Replacement).
6. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Disconnect the electrical connector on the windshield outside moisture sensor.
8. Disconnect the rearview mirror electrical connectors.
9. Pull the door opening moldings down to clear the headliner.
10. Remove the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Disconnect the headliner wiring harness connector.
12. Open the wire harness retainers and remove the harness.
Notice: Use care when removing or installing the headliner. Excessive bending will damage the headliner.
Important: A sharp putty knife may be necessary to cut the adhesive bead retaining the headliner to the cardboard roof panel reinforcement.
13. Carefully pull down on the headliner in order to release the adhesive bead retaining the cardboard roof damper to the roof panel.
14. Remove the headliner through the rear drivers door opening.
Installation Procedure
1. Ensure the roof dampener is attached to the roof panel. Install the cardboard insulator to the roof dampener. Refer to Headliner Replacement - Cardboard Insulator (Headliner Replacement - Cardboard Insulator)
Important: If the headliner locators separate during removal, obtain a locator repair kit from GM SPO.
2. Load the headliner into the vehicle through the rear drivers door opening.
3. With the aid of a helper, raise the headliner into position.
4. Install the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Install the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar).
7. Install the center pillar garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar.
8. Connect the headliner wiring harness connector.
9. Route and secure the wiring harness in the wiring harness retainers.
10. Install the sail panels. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement (Sail Panel Replacement).
Important: Ensure that the inside lip of the door opening weather-strip is properly seated to close out the headliner, sail panel and pillar garnish moldings.
11. Install the weather-strips in the door openings. Refer to Weatherstrip Replacement - Front Door (Weatherstrip Replacement - Front Door) or to Weatherstrip Replacement - Rear Door (Service and Repair) in Doors.
12. Connect the rear view mirror electrical connectors.
13. Connect the electrical connector on the windshield outside moisture sensor.
14. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8) (Console Replacement (Without RPO Code UV8))Console Replacement (w/ UV8) (Console Replacement (With RPO Code UV8)) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
15. Install the front bucket seats. Refer to Seat Replacement - Front Bucket (Seat Replacement - Front Bucket) in Seats.
