Instrument Panel (I/P) Retainer Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution.
1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
3. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8) (Console Replacement (Without RPO Code UV8))Console Replacement (w/ UV8) (Console Replacement (With RPO Code UV8)).
4. Remove the fuel/rear compartment release switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Switch Replacement.
5. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement (LHD).
6. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (U45), Radio Replacement (U1R, UL6, UM5, UM9).
8. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement.
9. Remove the I/P storage compartment.
10. Remove the left I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Left (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side (LHD)).
11. Remove the right I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Right (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side (LHD)).
12. Remove the I/P outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement).




13. Remove the I/P screws (1) from each end of the I/P retainer.




14. Remove the I/P retainer bolt (1), located in the fuel door/ rear compartment opening.




15. Remove the HVAC duct/ I/P retainer bolt (1), located below the HVAC duct, on the drivers side.




16. Remove the bolts (1) from both sides of the I/P extension bracket (2).




17. Turn the ignition to the run position.
18. Depress the release button (1) on the park lock cable and pull the cable, in order to disconnect the park lock cable from the ignition switch.
The release button (1) is located on the bottom of the ignition switch at the 6 o'clock position.




19. Remove the steering column nuts. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.
20. Lower the steering column in order to allow clearance for the I/P retainer to be removed.




21. Remove the remaining I/P retainer bolts.
22. Partially remove the I/P retainer (1) from the I/P carrier (2).
Disconnect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.
23. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
24. Feed the wiring through the I/P retainer openings as necessary.
25. Remove the I/P retainer from the vehicle.
26. Remove the Inside air temperature sensor from the I/P retainer. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Assembly Replacement (LHD).
27. Remove the Ignition switch from the I/P retainer. Ignition Switch Replacement (LHD).



Installation Procedure





1. Install the Ignition switch to the I/P retainer. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement (LHD).
2. Install the Inside air temperature sensor to the I/P retainer. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Assembly Replacement (LHD).
3. Partially install the I/P retainer (1) to the carrier (2).
Guide the wiring through the I/P retainer openings.
4. Connect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.
5. Connect the ignition switch electrical connectors.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

6. Install the I/P retainer (1) bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).





7. Turn the ignition to the run position.
8. Align the park lock cable tab (1) with the ignition switch.
9. Push the cable towards the ignition switch until an audible click is heard indicating the release button is engaged.




10. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.




11. Install the I/P retainer bolt (1) located in the opening for the fuel/rear compartment switch assembly.

Tighten the bolt to 2 N.m (18 lb in).





12. Install the HVAC duct/ I/P retainer bolt (1), located below the HVAC duct, on the drivers side.

Tighten the bolt to 2 N.m (18 lb in).





13. Install the I/P screw (1) at each end of the I/P retainer.

Tighten the bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

14. Install the fuel/rear compartment release switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Switch Replacement.
15. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement (LHD). Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
17. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (U45), Radio Replacement (U1R, UL6, UM5, UM9).
18. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement.
19. Install the I/P storage compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Service and Repair).
20. Install the left I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Left (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side (LHD)).
21. Install the right I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Right (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side (LHD)).
22. Install the I/P outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement)
23. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8) (Console Replacement (Without RPO Code UV8))Console Replacement (w/ UV8) (Console Replacement (With RPO Code UV8)).
24. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
25. Enable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5.
