Oil Pan: Service and Repair

Oil Pan Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Drain the engine oil.
2. Remove the front frame.





3. Remove the bolt securing transmission fluid cooler pipes brace to the engine.
4. Remove the 3 lower transmission mounting bolts.





5. Remove the oil pan bolts.
6. Carefully pry the oil pan away from the engine block. Remove the oil pan from the engine block.
7. Clean the cylinder block mating surfaces.
8. Clean and inspect the oil pan.

Installation Procedure
1. Apply a bead of silicone sealing compound, GM P/N 12346286 (Canadian P/N 10953472), or equivalent, to the oil pan mating surface.





2. Position the oil pan to the engine block.






Important: Position the oil pan fully rearward while tightening.

3. Install the oil pan bolts.

Tighten the oil pan bolts in sequence to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).

4. Install the 3 lower transmission mounting bolts.

Tighten the transmission mounting bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





5. Install the bolt securing transmission fluid cooler pipes brace to the engine.

Tighten the transmission fluid cooler pipes brace bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

6. Install the front frame.
7. Fill the engine oil.
8. Inspect for oil leaks after engine start up.
