Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle.





2. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.





3. Remove the VSS retainer bolt.
4. Remove the VSS by pulling the VSS straight out of the transmission.
5. Remove the O-ring from the VSS only if the O-ring needs to be replaced.

Installation Procedure





1. If the O-ring has been removed. Install a new O-ring.
2. Lubricate the O-ring with DEXRON�-III transmission fluid.
3. Install the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) to the transmission.

4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the VSS retainer bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).





5. Connect the VSS electrical connector to the VSS.
6. Lower the vehicle.
