Oil Cooler: Service and Repair
Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the upper filler panel.
2. Disconnect the upper engine oil cooler pipe from the radiator.
3. Remove the front air deflector.
4. Remove the engine oil cooler pipe retaining bolt and retainer from the fan shroud.
5. Disconnect the lower engine oil cooler pipe from the radiator.
6. Important: Engine oil cooler quick connect fittings must be replaced whenever they are removed from the engine oil filter adapter.
Remove the engine oil cooler quick connect fittings from the engine oil filter adapter, with the oil pipes still attached.
7. Remove the engine oil cooler pipes from the vehicle.
8. Slide the plastic cap off the quick connect joint.
9. Remove the internal spring clips from the engine oil cooler fittings.
10. Remove the engine oil cooler pipes from the cooler fittings.
Installation Procedure
1. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Important: Engine oil cooler quick connect fittings must be replaced whenever they are removed from the engine oil filter adapter.
Install the new engine oil cooler quick connect fittings to the engine oil filter adapter.
Tighten the engine oil cooler quick connect fittings to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
2. Push the engine oil cooler pipes fully into the new engine oil cooler quick connect fittings, until a o'clock is heard.
3. Tug gently on the cooler pipes to ensure proper retention.
4. Slide the plastic cap over the quick connect joint.
5. Install the lower engine oil cooler pipe to the radiator.
Tighten the engine oil cooler pipe fitting to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the engine oil cooler pipe retaining clip and bolt to the fan shroud.
Tighten the engine oil cooler pipe retaining bolt to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
7. Install the front air deflector.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Connect the upper engine oil cooler pipe to the radiator.
Tighten the engine oil cooler pipe fitting to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the upper filler panel.
11. Inspect the engine oil level.
