Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side (LP1, LY7)
Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in Service Precautions.

Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Remove the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement - Lower.





2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield upper bolts.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield lower bolt.
5. Disconnect the center intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft to provide a removal envelope for the shield. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.





7. Remove the upper exhaust manifold heat shield insulator from the oil level indicator tube, if necessary.





8. Remove the lower exhaust manifold heat shield insulator from the oil level indicator and exhaust gasket, if necessary.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the lower exhaust manifold heat shield insulator to the oil level indicator and exhaust gasket, if necessary.





2. Install the upper exhaust manifold heat shield insulator to the oil level indicator tube, if necessary.





3. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
4. Install but do not tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield lower bolt.
5. Lower the vehicle.

6. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield upper bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
8. Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield lower bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
9. Install the center intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement.
10. Lower the vehicle.
