Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Caution: Refer to Restraint System Caution in Service Precautions.

Disable the SIR system. Refer to Restraint System Disabling and Enabling Zone 3.

2. Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

Disconnect the ignition battery.
3. Remove the knee bolster.
4. Position the steering wheel half way between the upper and lower tilt stops.
5. Remove the steering wheel.
6. If equipped remove the manual tilt lever.





7. Remove the retaining screws (4) from the lower steering column trim cover.
8. Disconnect the closeout shroud from the lower trim cover.





9. Remove the retaining screw (2) from the upper steering column trim cover.





10. Lift the upper trim cover to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole.





11. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the START position.
12. Using the bent tip awl, push down on the retaining pin of the ignition lock cylinder.
13. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position.





14. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the ignition lock cylinder case.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the ignition lock cylinder to the ignition lock cylinder case assembly by doing the following procedure:
1 Align the positioning slot and the locking tab slot on the ignition lock cylinder case assembly to the positioning tab and the locking tab on the ignition lock cylinder.
2 Push the ignition lock cylinder into the ignition lock cylinder case assembly until the locking tabs lock together.





2. Install the upper trim cover (1) to the steering column.

3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the retaining screw (2) to the upper steering column trim cover.
Tighten the screws to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).





4. Connect the lower trim cover (2) to the closeout shroud.
5. Install the retaining screws (4) to the lower steering column trim cover.
Tighten the screws to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.).
6. Install the steering wheel.
7. Install the knee bolster.
8. Connect the ignition battery.
9. Enable the SIR system.
