Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The rear compartment lid ajar switch is normally open when the trunk is fully closed. When the trunk is open the rear compartment lid ajar switch contact is closed providing a path to ground. When the rear compartment lid ajar switch is closed, the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal to the rear integration module (RIM) is grounded. The RIM reports the switch status by sending a serial data message to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) indicating the trunk ajar status. The IPC displays TRUNK AJAR in the driver information center (DIC).
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition ON, scan tool installed and the rear compartment fully closed, verify the rear compartment lid ajar parameter in the rear integration module (RIM) Data List is Trunk Open.
• If not, replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC).
2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid release actuator, verify the rear compartment lid ajar parameter in the rear integration module (RIM) Data List is Trunk Closed.
• If no, test the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RIM.
3. If all circuits tests normal, replace the rear compartment lid release actuator.
