Condition

Some customers may comment that the Power Liftgate may have one or more of the following concerns:

- The "Liftgate Open" or "Rear Access Open" message on the DIC does not immediately turn off after the liftgate is fully closed.
- The courtesy lamps do not go into theater dimming immediately after the liftgate is fully closed.
- The Liftgate reverses while closing.

During diagnosis, the technician may also observe the Tech 2(R) "Close History Data" stating an "Obstacle Detected."

Cause

The Power Liftgate Module delays reporting the liftgate latch's state. The module is not communicating that the liftgate is FULLY closed in a timely fashion. The time delay for reporting the latch state is between 200 msec and 20 seconds.

Correction

Important
DO NOT replace the liftgate latch or the Power Liftgate Module for this concern.

Reprogram the Power Liftgate Module with the revised calibration.

Important
Select the correct calibration files for the appropriate vehicle configuration (body style) and RPO codes.

A revised calibration has been developed to address this condition. Technicians are to reprogram the Power Liftgate Module using the Service Programming System (SPS) with the latest software available on TIS2WEB. Refer to the Liftgate Control Module Programming and Setup procedures in SI. As always, make sure your Tech 2(R) is updated with the latest software version.
