Electronic Brake Control Module: Service and Repair
Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module with Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Replacement (CTS)
Removal Procedure
Caution: To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.
1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the right front wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the washer solvent container fasteners and position the washer solvent container aside to access the electronic brake control module (EBCM). Refer to Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (With CE4) (Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (With CE4))Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (Without CE4) (Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (Without CE4)).
5. Thoroughly clean the area around the EBCM of all dirt and debris.
6. Release the EBCM electrical connector by pressing the retaining tab and rotating the locking lever forward.
7. Remove the EBCM screws (1).
8. Separate the EBCM (1) from the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV).
Installation Procedure
1. Clean the sealing surfaces of the BPMV and the EBCM.
2. Install the EBCM (1) to the BPMV.
3. Install the EBCM screws (1).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
4. Tighten the EBCM screws in the sequence shown (1-4) to 5 Nm (44 lb in).
5. Connect the EBCM electrical connector.
6. Position the washer solvent container and install the fasteners. Refer to Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (With CE4) (Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (With CE4))Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (Without CE4) (Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (Without CE4)).
7. Install the right front wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. If installing a new EBCM, program the EBCM. Refer to Control Module References (Programming and Relearning).
10. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle).
