Power Steering Gear Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement
Power Steering Gear Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement (LAU)
Removal Procedure
1. Place drain pans under the vehicle.
2. Remove as much power steering fluid from the reservoir as possible.
3. Complete the following steps. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Service and Repair).
1. Install the engine support fixture.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies.
4. Remove the radiator air lower deflector.
5. Remove the rear transmission mount through bolt.
6. Use mechanics wire in order to suspend the steering gear from the powertrain.
7. Remove the steering gear fasteners.
4. Disconnect the lower electronic suspension front vertical accelerometer link, if equipped. Refer to Electronic Suspension Front Vertical Accelerometer Replacement - Lower (Electronic Suspension Front Vertical Accelerometer Replacement - Lower).
5. Remove the bolt (2) from the power steering gear outlet hose bracket near the steering gear.
6. Remove the bolt (2) from the power steering gear outlet hose bracket near the right steering gear boot.
7. Remove the bolt (3) from the power steering gear outlet hose bracket on the right front corner of the frame.
8. Use a jack in order to support the rear of the drivetrain and front suspension frame.
9. Complete the following steps. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Service and Repair).
1. Loosen the front frame-to-body bolts.
2. Remove the reinforcement bolts.
3. Remove the rear frame-to-body bolts.
4. Lower the rear of the frame in order to access the hose on the steering gear.
10. Compress the hose clamp and disconnect the power steering gear outlet hose (1) from the power steering fluid cooler inlet hose (2).
11. Disconnect the power steering gear outlet hose from the steering gear.
12. Remove the power steering gear outlet hose (2) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Position the power steering gear outlet hose (2) in the vehicle.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
2. Connect the power steering gear outlet hose (1) to the steering gear. Tighten the fitting to 34 Nm (25 lb ft).
3. Compress the hose clamp and connect the power steering gear outlet hose (1) to the power steering fluid cooler inlet hose (2).
4. Use the jack in order to raise the rear of the drivetrain and front suspension frame.
5. Complete the following steps. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Service and Repair).
1. Install the rear frame-to-body bolts.
2. Tighten the front frame-to-body bolts.
3. Install the reinforcement bolts.
4. Remove the mechanics wire from the steering gear.
6. Install the bolt (3) to the power steering gear outlet hose bracket on the right front corner of the frame and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
7. Install the bolt (2) to the power steering gear outlet hose bracket near the right steering gear boot and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
8. Install the bolt to the power steering gear outlet hose bracket at the steering gear and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
9. Install the fasteners to the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement (Steering Gear Replacement).
10. Connect the lower electronic suspension front vertical accelerometer link, if equipped. Refer to Electronic Suspension Front Vertical Accelerometer Replacement - Lower (Electronic Suspension Front Vertical Accelerometer Replacement - Lower).
11. Complete the following steps. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement (Service and Repair).
1. Install the rear transmission mount through bolt.
2. Install the radiator air lower deflector.
3. Install the tire and wheel assemblies.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the engine support fixture.
12. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding (Service and Repair).
13. Clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle.
14. Remove the drain pans.
