The Nippondenso starter, Fig. 1, is a gear reduction starter with the solenoid switch mounted on the underside of the starter motor.
The 1.0 Kw starter gear reduction mechanism consists of a drive gear machined onto the armature shaft which drives a pinion gear, which in turn rotates the starter clutch assembly. The 1.4 Kw starter armature drives a pinion gear, which drives an idler gear, which drives the starter clutch assembly.
The armature used on this starter is mounted on ball bearings at each end which require lubrication only when the starter is disassembled for service.
