CHECKING CHAIN FOR POSSIBLE WEAR


Model and Year: 1980-84 CAVALIER, CITATION, AND CELEBRITY - ALL WITH THM 125/125C AND 440-T4 TRANSMISSION
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS


When disassembling any THM 125/125C and 440-T4, it is important to inspect the drive link assembly (chain) for possible wear. Refer to the following service procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Midway between the sprockets and at right angles to the chain, push the slack (bottom) strand of the chain down until finger tight and mark with crayon on bottom side of chain link (see illustration attached)..
2. Push up in the same manner and put a second mark, making sure that both marks are made from the same point on the chain.

NOTICE: If the distance between the marks exceed 27.4 mm (1 1/16 inches), the chain must be replaced.
