Air Injection Filter: Service and Repair

NOTE: Early model vehicles use a conventional, externally mounted air filter assembly, while later model vehicles use an integral centrifugal pump filter located behind the air pump pulley.

REPLACEMENT - EXTERNAL TYPE

1. Remove air cleaner body to air horn assembly wing nut, then the air cleaner body.
2. Remove filter element from air horn assembly.
3. Position new filter element into air horn assembly and install into air cleaner body, making sure tang aligns with slot. Install wing nut.

REPLACEMENT - INTEGRAL TYPE

1. Remove air pump drive belt and pulley.
2. Carefully pry outer disc from filter fan, then remove remaining portion of filter with pliers, Fig 9.
3. Position new filter onto pump, install pulley and pulley retaining bolts and draw filter down evenly by alternately torquing retaining bolts.
4. Install and adjust air pump drive belt.

NOTE: The new filter may squeal upon initial operation until sealing lip outer edge has worn in.
