Excessive Fuel Consumption

1. Check air cleaner for restrictions.
2. Check fuel lead adjustment bolt seal for leakage.
3. Check fuel pipes for leakage.
4. Check exhaust system for restrictions.
5. Check if idle speed is within specifications.
6. Check to ensure proper quality of fuel.
7. Check injection timing.
8. Check fuel spray pattern, and ensure injection starting pressure is 1707 psi.
9. Check to ensure valve clearances are satisfactory. Refer to specifications.
10. Check compression pressure in each cylinder. Standard valve should be 441 psi.
11. Check delivery valve for sticking.
12. Replace or readjust setting of injection pump.
