Oil Pan: Service and Repair


WITH MAN. TRANS.OR TURBO HYDRA---MATIC 180C TRANS.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove upper radiator support. On models equipped with A/C, remove upper half of fan shroud.
3. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect transmission oil cooler lines from radiator.
4. Disconnect radiator hoses, then remove radiator from vehicle.
5. If equipped with A/C, remove condenser to radiator support attaching nuts and position on top of engine.
6. Remove heater core housing and position on top of engine.
7. Remove engine mount retaining nuts and clips.
8. Raise and support front of vehicle, then drain crankcase.
9. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold, then remove body to crossmember braces.
10. Remove rack and pinion steering gear unit from crossmember and steering shaft, then pull unit down and out of way.
11. Remove stabilizer bar from body.
12. Install a suitable engine lifting device and raise engine sufficiently to permit oil pan removal.
13. Remove oil pan attaching screws, then pull pan down and remove oil pump pickup tube and screen assembly.
14. Remove oil pan through front of vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install. When installing oil pump pickup tube and screen assembly, use a new seal. Torque oil pan attaching screws to 55 inch lbs.

WITH TURBO HYDRA-MATIC 200 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner.
2. Remove heater housing assembly from front of dash panel and position on top of engine.
3. Pull back on motor mount wire restraints and remove mount nuts.
4. Remove radiator upper support or fan shroud, as necessary.
5. Raise and support front of vehicle, then drain crankcase.
6. Remove converter housing splash shield.
7. Remove rack and pinion steering gear unit from front crossmember.
8. Loosen catalytic converter to rear exhaust pipe clamp bolts.
9. Install a suitable engine lifting device and raise engine sufficiently to permit oil pan removal.
10. Remove oil pan attaching screws, then remove oil pan.
11. Reverse procedure to install. Torque oil pan attaching screws to 55 inch lbs.
