Model and Year: 1983-1985 CHEVETTE
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
Some 1983-85 Chevettes equipped with 5-speed manual transmissions (MB4) and 1.6L L4 engines (VIN Code C) may exhibit an objectionable transmission gear rattle noise when the shifter is in the neutral position and the clutch is engaged. Generally, this condition is caused by engine idle speed settings which are lower than specification.

To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1. Reset engine idle speeds to specification as outlined on the vehicle Emission Control Information Label.

2. If after resetting idle speed the rattle condition persists, replace the clutch pressure plate and driven disc with the following parts.
