CHART C-2B - IDLE STOP SOLENOID

Circuit Description:

An Idle Stop Solenoid is used to increase throttle opening during certain deceleration modes and when the A/C is "ON". The solenoid is controlled by a relay, which has two sets of contacts. Control of the relay is by the ECM, which completes a ground to energize the solenoid. When relay is energized, throttle opening is increased only if A/C is "ON". When relay is de-energized, a fixed throttle opening is maintained on deceleration, regardless of A/C position.

Test Description: Step numbers refer to step numbers on diagnostic chart.

1. Checks for normal operation of solenoid. With key "ON" engine not running solenoid plunger should extend.

2. Checks for normal solenoid plunger retraction if "test" terminal is grounded.
