Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair






REMOVAL
The following procedure should be performed with engine temperature over 120°F, otherwise the oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connector.
3. Carefully back out oxygen sensor.

INSTALLATION
1. Coat threads of oxygen sensor with anti-seize compound if necessary.
2. Install and torque sensor to 41 Nm (30 ft lbs).
3. Install electrical connector.
4. Install negative battery cable.

NOTICE: Replacement sensors should have a special anti-seize compound applied to threads. If a replacement sensor is lacking anti-seize compound or original sensor is to be reinstalled, coat threads with suitable anti-seize compound.

NOTICE: Before starting engine do Idle Learn Procedure
- Install Tech 1 Scan tool.
- Ignition ON, engine OFF.
- Select Idle Air Control (IAC) SYSTEM, then IDLE LEARN in the MISC TEST mode.
- Proceed with idle learn as directed.
This procedure allows the Electronic Control Module (ECM) memory to be updated with the correct IAC valve pintle position for the vehicle and provides for a stable idle speed.
