Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair

Prior to installation, clean the head bolts, then dip in engine oil. Tighten head bolts in steps and in the sequence shown in Fig. 5. Final torquing should be to the specifications listed in SPECIFICATIONS/TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain radiator and cylinder block.
3. Remove intake and exhaust manifolds.
4. Remove ground strap from left cylinder head, if applicable.
5. Remove rocker arm bolts, pivots, rocker arms and push rods. Keep rocker arms, pivots and push rods in order so they can be installed in the same position.
6. Remove cylinder head attaching bolts, then remove cylinder head.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Torque cylinder head bolts in sequence shown in Fig. 5.
