Removal

1. Discharge refrigerant system and remove compressor drive belt.
2. Reposition compressor, as needed, to gain access to clutch assembly and seal, or remove compressor and mount in suitable holding fixture.
3. Remove clutch plate and hub assembly as outlined.
4. Remove shaft seal retaining ring, then thoroughly clean area around seal to prevent dirt from entering compressor.
5. Insert seal replacement tool J-23128-A or equivalent into seal, fully engage knurled tangs of tool into recessed portion of seal by turning tool clockwise, then remove seal with a rotary/pulling motion.
6. Remove and discard seal O-ring using J-9553 or equivalent.
7. Thoroughly clean seal O-ring groove in front head.
8. Inspect compressor shaft and seal mounting surface, and clean or repair as needed.
