Timing Cover: Service and Repair

Fig. 6 Front Cover & Timing Chain Components:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove vibration damper and water pump.
3. Remove oil pan and gasket as outlined.
4. Remove AIR control valve, check valve pipe and silencer as an assembly.
5. Remove fuel inlet and return lines.
6. Remove A/C compressor mounting bracket.
7. Remove water pump as described under WATER PUMP.
8. Remove front cover retaining screws and the front cover, Fig. 6.
9. Reverse procedure to install. Apply sealant 1052080 or equivalent approximately 1 inch in either direction at front cover to engine junction and at point where rear seal retainer meets case prior to installation of oil pan.
