3. Pull boot back, then slide snap ring on gearshift rod over gearshift shaft pin.
4. Remove gearshift linkage pin from gearshift rod and gearshift shaft.
5. Remove rear support bracket, then gearshift assembly from transmission.

Disassembly
1. Remove tie straps and boot from gear-shift assembly.
2. Remove gearshift cover, snap rings from pivot pin, then pin from gearshift lever.
3. Remove gearshift lever and gearshift rod from gearshift control arm, then gearshift rod from gearshift lever. Use a punch to remove pin from shaft.
4. Press gearshift lever bearing assembly from gearshift lever.
5. Remove reverse lock-out tie rod and setscrew, then stop block and gearshift lever spring from gear shift lever.
6. Remove pivot from gearshift control arm, then pivot guides and shim rings from pivot.
7. Remove gearshift axial pivot joint assembly pin, then stop block pin and shim from control arm.

Cleaning and Inspection
Clean all metal parts in a suitable solvent. All seals and gaskets should be replaced. Other rubber parts should be washed in a water soluble industrial cleaner that does not contain chlorinate hydrocarbons. Inspect all part for damage or wear.

Assemble
1. Install axial pivot assembly pins into gearshift pivot joint. Install pin flush with pivot joint inner surface.
2. Install shim rings on both side of pivot joint, then install pivot guides. Ensure pivot assembly is not in a bind, add or remove shim if required.
3. Install gearshift lever spring and stop block.
4. Insert reverse lock-out tie rod and stop block setscrew into gearshift lever Use Loctite 262 or equivalent on stop block setscrew.
5. Install gearshift lever bearing assemblies into gearshift lever. Ensure bearing assemblies are installed flush with gearshift lever.
6. Install gearshift lever shaft into gearshift lever and gearshift rod to gearshift rod shaft, using flange bolt.
7. Assemble gearshift lever into pivot joint assembly, then install pivot pin.
8. Install snap ring to pivot pin, then locking pin and shim to control arm.
9. Assemble pivot joint into gearshift control arm, then install boot over assembly.
10. Install gearshift cover, then attaching nuts using Loctite 262 or equivalent. Torque attaching nuts to 89 in. lbs..

Installation
1. Install gearshift assembly to transmission, align gearshift rod with gearshift shaft, then install gearshift control attaching bolt to rear of case. Torque attaching bolt to 19 ft. lbs.
2. Install gearshift rod to gearshift lever using linkage pin.
3. Install snap ring into gearshift rod groove, then rear support bracket and bracket attaching bolt. Finger tighten attaching bolt at this time.
4. Install lock pin with shim to control arm, then lockpin attaching bolt. Do not tighten bolts at this time.
5. Shift transmission into 6th gear, check clearance between stop bolt and locking pin. Clearance should be between .004-.012 inch.

6. If clearance is not within specifications, replace stop block shim. Refer to shim thickness reference chart.
7. Torque locking pin attaching bolts to 18 ft. lbs.
8. Remove support bracket and position boot over shifter assembly, then secure with tie strap.
9. Install support bracket and torque attaching bolts to 18 ft. lbs.
10. Check transmission for smooth shifting.
