Evaporator Core: Service and Repair







REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Discharge and recover refrigerant from the system.
3. Instrument panel compartment.
4. Electrical connections, as necessary.
5. Center floor air distribution duct.
6. ECM and mounting tray.
7. Hinge pillar trim panels.
8. Blower motor cover.
9. Blower motor (40).
10. Steering wheel.
11. Tilt back instrument panel assembly.
12. Coolant recovery tank.
13. Heater hoses.
14. Evaporator tube.
15. Accumulator (1).
16. Screws (26 and 39).
17. Nut (24).
18. Bolt (36).
19. Module assembly (37).

NOTE: It may be necessary to have an assistant when removing module assembly.

20. Evaporator case bottom cover plate (33).
- Remove the seven screws that hold the cover plate to the module assembly.
21. Heater core and seal from module assembly.
22. Evaporator case cover (34).
- Remove the four screws that hold the case cover to the module assembly.
23. Evaporator core from module assembly (37).

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Evaporator core into module assembly (37).
2. Evaporator case cover (34).
- Install the four screws that hold the case cover to the module assembly.
3. Heater core and seal into module assembly.
4. Evaporator case bottom cover plate (33).
- Install the seven screws that hold the cover plate to the module assembly.
5. Module assembly (37).

NOTE: It may be necessary to have an assistant when installing module assembly.

6. Bolt (36).
7. Nut (24).
8. Screws (26 and 41).Tighten;
- Bolt (36) to 11 Nm (97 in. lb.).
- Nut (24) to 2.8 Nm (25 in. lb.).
- Screws (26 and 41) to 1.9 Nm (17 in. lb.).
9. Accumulator (1).
10. Evaporator tube.
11. Heater hoses.
12. Coolant recovery tank.
13. Instrument panel.
14. Steering wheel.
15. Blower motor (40).
16. Blower motor cover.
17. Hinge pillar trim panels.
18. ECM and mounting tray.
19. Center floor air distribution duct.
20. Electrical connections, as necessary.
21. Instrument panel compartment.
22. Refrigerant to the system.
23. Fill cooling system to proper level.
- Check the system for leaks.
