Subject:
60/40 INTERMEDIATE SEAT LIFT EFFORT

Model and Year:
1992 C/K SUBURBAN

Owners of some 1992 C/K Suburban models may comment that high effort is needed to lift the 60 percent portion of the intermediate seat. The condition may be the result of the seat inboard and outboard front leg pivot springs. The springs are rated too low causing high lift efforts.

The condition may be corrected by replacing the seat inboard and outboard front leg pivot springs with (P/N 12542258).

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1) Unlatch the seat cushion and fold the seat forward exposing the front leg outboard plastic trim cover.

2) Unscrew the two screws holding the plastic trim cover in place and remove the cover from the metal floor stanchion.

3) Remove the two pivot bolts from the stanchion assembly (Outboard and inboard front legs.)

4) Lift the cushion assembly slightly to rotate the springs out of the cushion pivot legs.

5) Remove the small diameter spring from both the inboard and outboard sides.

6) Install the large diameter spring (P/N 12542258) into both the inboard and outboard sides, in the same orientation as the small spring.

7) Position the cushion assembly pivot legs into the floor stanchion assembly and rotate the heavy springs into the pivot legs.

8) Slide the pivot bolts into the stanchion and springs and drive the bolts tight. Torque to 16-22 N-m (12-16 lbs.ft.).

9) Replace the outboard plastic trim cover on the stanchion assembly Torque 2.6-3.4 N-m (1.9-2.5 lbs.ft.).
