Starter Motor: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support front of vehicle.
3. Disconnect solenoid wires and battery cable at starter motor.
4. On 2.0L/4-121 engines, remove rear engine mount support bracket, then the A/C compressor support rod (if equipped).
5. On 2.2L/4-134 engines, disconnect wiring clamp at starter support bracket, then remove the support bracket to engine attaching bolt.
6. On all engines, remove starter attaching bolts, then carefully lower starter. Note position of shims, if used.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
