Starter Motor: Service and Repair

1. Remove air cleaner assembly.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Raise and support front of vehicle.
4. On models with engine oil cooler, remove oil filter, then position oil cooler hose out of the way.
5. Remove A/C compressor brace attaching nuts, then the starter support brace-to-engine attaching nut.
6. Remove flywheel inspection cover attaching bolts, then the cover.
7. Remove starter attaching bolts, then carefully lower starter. Note position of shims, if used.
8. Disconnect starter wiring at solenoid.
9. Reverse procedure to install. On models with engine oil cooler, check engine oil level after installing filter.
