Disassemble
1. Using a press and Universal Press Plate tool No. J-22912-O1 or equivalents, remove 3rd/4th synchronizer, 3rd gear blocking ring, and 3rd gear as an assembly. Do not allow the synchronizer assembly to come apart at this time.
2. Remove needle bearing assembly and spacer from output shaft.
3. Remove speedometer gear from output shaft by pressing down on retaining clip, then slide gear off output shaft.
4. Using a press and Universal Press Plate tool No. J-22912-O1 or equivalents, Press 5th gear off shaft.
5. Remove output shaft rear bearing, then 1st gear.
6. Remove 1st gear needle bearing and sleeve assembly. There is a snug fit between the sleeve and output shaft.
7. Using a pencil magnet, remove roll pin shown.
8. Remove three piece first gear blocker ring from output shaft.
9. Remove second gear snap ring and thrust washer.
10. Remove second gear from output shaft, then second gear needle bearing assembly.
11. Using a small screwdriver, disengage spiral snap from slot in output shaft.
12. Remove second gear snap ring, then thrust washer.
13. Remove second gear from output shaft, then needle bearing assembly and spacer.
14. Using a small screwdriver, disengage spiral snap ring from slot in output shaft.
15. Remove snap ring and thrust washer from output shaft.
16. Remove three piece second gear blocker ring assembly.
17. Scribe an alignment mark between synchronizer hub and sleeve for alignment during assembly.
18. The detent ball shown, may be under pressure, use caution when removing this component. Remove detent ball and spring from 1st/2nd synchronizer hub.
19. The 1st/2nd speed synchronizer and hub is serviced only as an assembly, with the output shaft. No attempt should be made to remove the hub from the shaft. The only parts that can be serviced are the spring and/or inserts and detent ball and spring.
