Engine Installation

Install or Connect

1. Install engine into the vehicle.

2. Raise the vehicle. Support with safety stands.

CAUTION: When fasteners are removed, always reinstall them at the same location from which they were removed. If a fastener needs to be replaced, use the correct part number fastener for that application. If the correct part number fastener is not available, a fastener of equal size and strength (or stronger) may be used. The correct torque value must be used when installing fasteners that require it. If the above conditions are not met, parts or system damage could result.

3. Install front engine mounting to frame bolts.
Tighten bolts (B) to: 59n.m (44 ft. lbs.).
Tighten nuts (C) to: 45n.m (33 ft. lbs.).
Tighten bolts (G) to: 51n.m (38 ft. lbs.).
Tighten nuts (H) to: 68n.m (50 ft. lbs.).
Tighten bolts (J) to: 95n.m (70 ft. lbs.).

4. Install bell housing to engine bolts.
Tighten bolts to: 44n.m (32 ft. lbs.).

5. Remove the transmission support.

6. Install converter to flex plate bolts.
Tighten bolts to: 63n.m (46 ft. lbs.).

7. Connect wiring, as required.

8. Install starter.

9. Install wiring along oil pan rail (if used).

10. Install flywheel or torque converter underpan.

11. Install strut rods at the engine mountings (if used).

12. Connect exhaust pipes to the manifolds.

13. Lower the vehicle.

14. Connect vacuum lines to the intake manifold.

15. Connect Fuel line.

16. Connect engine wiring harness.

17. Install power steering pump (if equipped).

18. Install air conditioning compressor (if equipped).

19. Connect accelerator and cruise control linkages (if equipped).

20. Connect heater hoses.

21. Install radiator and shroud.

22. Install accessory drive belt/s. Refer to Drive Belt. Drive Belt

23. Install air cleaner.

24. Install hood.

25. Add proper quantity of coolant and crankcase oil, Refer to Cooling System Capacities. Specifications
Refer to Engine Crankcase Capacities.
26. Connect negative battery cable.
