Transmission Replacement

Remove or Disconnect

1. Shift control lever, as used. Refer to "Shift Control Lever Replacement" Service and Repair.
- Raise the vehicle.
2. Transmission oil. Refer to "Drain and Fill" Service and Repair.
3. Propeller shaft Service and Repair.
4. Transfer case, if used.
5. Parking brake and controls, if used.
6. Exhaust pipes, if necessary.
7. electrical harnesses, as necessary.
8. Clutch slave cylinder and lay it aside.
9. Bolts and the inspection cover (RPO MG5).

Important
- Note the positions of any lines or wires before removing them.
- Support the transmission with a jack.

10. Crossmember.
11. Bolts (19) and washers (21) as used.
12. Transmission (20).

Important
- Do not let the transmission hang from the clutch.
- Pull the transmission straight back on the clutch hub splines.

Install or Connect

- Shift the transmission into "Neutral" before installing.

Important
- Do not force the transmission into the clutch.
- Do not let transmission hang from the clutch, leave the jack under the transmission to support it.

Notice: When fasteners are removed, always reinstall them at the same location from which they were removed. If a fastener needs to be replaced, use the correct part number fastener for that application. If the correct part number fastener is not available, a fastener of equal size and strength (or stronger) may be used. Fastener that are not reused, and those requiring thread locking compound will be called out. The correct torque value muse be used when installing fasteners that require it. If the above conditions are not followed, parts, or system damage could result.

2. Washers (21) and bolts (19), as used.

Tighten
- Bolts (19)

3. Crossmember.
- Remove the jack.
4. Bolts and the inspection cover (RPO MG5).

Tighten
- Bolts to 18 Nm (13 ft lb).

5. Clutch slave cylinder.
6. Electrical harnesses, as necessary.
7. Exhaust pipes, if necessary.
8. Parking brake and controls, if used.
9. Transfer case, if used.
10. Propeller shaft Service and Repair.
- Lower the vehicle.
11. Shift control lever, as used. Refer to "Shift Control Lever Replacement" Service and Repair.
12. New transmission oil. Refer to "Drain and Fill" Service and Repair.
