Campaign - Door Lock Cylinder Freeze Up: Overview

GMC NUMBER: 93-C-14

GROUP: 10-A1 Doors

DATE: November 1993

SUBJECT:
DOOR LOCK CYLINDER FREEZE UP

MODELS:
1992-93 C/K MODELS

General Motors has determined that CERTAIN 1992-93 C/K models were produced with door lock cylinders manufactured with inadequate tumbler lubrication. This condition has resulted in an increase of lock cylinder freeze up and corrosion.

To prevent this condition from occurring, lock cylinder lubricant and instructions will be sent to all owners of record. Owners may lubricate their door locks or they may ask a dealer to perform the service.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are CERTAIN 1992-93 C/K models built within the VIN breakpoints as shown.

Dealers should confirm vehicle eligibility through VISS (Vehicle Information Service System) or SERVICE NET prior to beginning campaign repairs.

DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY

Since the door lock cylinder can be easily lubricated, for the owners' convenience, lubricant along with instructions, will be sent directly to owners of record. Owners may apply the lubricant or they may ask a dealer to perform the service.
Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward. Dealers are to correct all affected vehicles in new and used vehicle stock prior to their sale.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or it is in your dealership for service in the future, you should take the steps necessary to ensure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Owners will be notified of this campaign on their vehicles by GMC Truck Division (see copy of owner letter included with this bulletin). A listing of owner names and addresses will NOT be furnished to the involved dealers.
